Department of Barley Breeding and Primary Seed Production
Brief description of the department's activities
The Department of Barley Breeding and Primary Seed Production is a structural subdivision of the Kyrgyz Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture named after K.K.
Azykov, which is engaged in creating new barley varieties and providing them with primary seed material for further propagation.
The department carries out the development and implementation of new crop varieties characterized by high yield, resistance to adverse conditions, and compliance with production requirements.
The main areas of work include hybridization, selection of promising lines, organization of field trials, and scientific and methodological support of the breeding process.
The division ensures obtaining and maintaining the purity of the primary seed material (superelite, elite) necessary for further propagation and transfer to farms.
The department's activities are aimed at strengthening the seed base, increasing the efficiency of the agricultural sector, and ensuring food security of the country.
Management and staff
Main research areas
Creation of new varieties - Development of barley varieties with high yield, resistance to diseases, drought, and other stress factors
Genetic and breeding research - Study of trait heritability, hybridization, and selection of promising lines
Grain quality - Study of nutritional value, technological properties, and suitability of varieties for the food and feed industry
Primary seed production - Obtaining and maintaining the purity of the primary seed material (superelite, elite), controlling variety identity
Adaptation to regional conditions - Evaluation of varieties in various agro-climatic zones to identify the most resistant and productive forms
Phytosanitary research - Development of methods for protection against diseases and pests, increasing plant immunity
